Chapter 80 has been upholding the vision and goals of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1967. Most of our members hail from Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. With over 100 members, our chapter has representation from all walks of life.
We usually meet at 7:00pm on the second Monday of every month inside the main hangar of Oracle Aviation at Millard Airport, Omaha, NE. Members get together for conversation, “hangar flying”, comparing notes and sharing their project updates with the rest of the group. We also invite interesting speakers to share their expertise in various areas as well as their building or flying experiences with the chapter members.
New members and visitors are always welcome, and are encouraged to introduce themselves and tell everyone a little bit about their projects or planes. After the business portion of the meeting is concluded there is a short break (usually with some refreshments) before the evening’s presentation.
Members are always sharing their experiences, problems and/or successes they have had with their projects or planes. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and newcomers are always welcome! If you haven’t attended a meeting yet, please drop in and see what you learn or share with aviators and builders of all backgrounds and levels of experience. If you have a question, there will probably be several people who can answer it — and if you have knowledge to share, you’ll find plenty of people who will listen.
The chapter has a number of tools available for members to use when needed, mostly kept in hangars at Millard. There is a set of aircraft weighing scales, a large and a small sheet metal brake and a shear, and a trailer along with numerous other tools.
Social events are held throughout the year and include a summer picnic, the occasional chili feed or poker run, an annual holiday party and others. Of course there are Young Eagles events from spring through the fall, when our members have a chance to help introduce the next generation of kids to the joys of flight.
The chapter has a very active membership that loves to do just about anything related to aircraft. In the true spirit of general aviation, this fine group of people gather to build, fly, promote aviation and have fun!
